Grove – BREAK A SWEAT
Grove returns with “BREAK A SWEAT”, the first half of a double A-side called “HYDRA” out December 10 via Memorials of Distinction. The release comes as a limited run of 30 7″ vinyl with accompanying lino prints by Lotte Vans, with all profits going to the Support Masafer Yatta campaign.
“BREAK A SWEAT” locks into 70bpm with pounding industrial drums and a sax line from James Storm cutting through the marching rhythm. Grove’s punk vocals command the track forward, built for high-intensity movement on the dancefloor.
Both tracks confront Western colonial violence in Palestine, Sudan, and Congo, while also addressing the trial of the Filton 24, protestors accused of damaging weapons at an Israeli munitions factory in Bristol. Grove spent two years between releases, recovering from knee surgery, doing strength training, and deepening her connection to activism. She also honed her production craft, working with figures from Bristol’s experimental jam scene.
The lyrics reference demagogues, lies, and complicity, building to a sax interlude before the title phrase repeats and fractures. Grove calls it “a reminder for me to persevere. To keep moving, no matter how small the steps.” They describe the warrior’s journey against apathy and the need to reclaim collective power against government corruption.
